The Salvador SuperUp 500 is a semi-automatic up-stroke crosscut saw designed for quick, accurate and safe 90-degree cutting in solid wood processing environments. Built as the modern replacement for Salvador’s previous Classic crosscut saw range, the SuperUp 500 keeps the same simple working principle while introducing a stronger structure, improved guarding, better maintenance access and a more ergonomic operator layout.
Designed around the principles of solid, safe and simple operation, the SuperUp 500 is well suited to joinery workshops, furniture manufacturers, timber component producers, packaging companies, educational workshops, timber merchants and sawmills that need dependable straight crosscutting without the complexity of a fully programmable optimising saw. The machine is easy to operate, making it suitable for production environments where operators need to be trained quickly and work safely.
The SuperUp 500 uses an up-stroke cutting action, with the sawblade rising through the material from below during the cutting cycle. This design keeps the blade enclosed when not cutting and supports a clean, controlled crosscutting process. The machine is supplied with a 500 mm sawblade as standard, with an optional 550 mm XL version available for increased cutting capacity. The standard specification includes a 5.5 kW blade motor, with a 7.5 kW motor supplied as part of the XL version.
Safety is central to the design. The cutting cycle is operated using two-handed controls, positioned ergonomically so the operator must keep both hands away from the cutting area before the saw cycle can start. When the cutting cycle is engaged, the pneumatic pressure beam descends to secure the workpiece during the cut. This helps hold the material firmly, improves operator safety and supports more effective dust extraction around the cutting area.
For improved ergonomics and workshop flexibility, the SuperUp 500 can be specified with an automatic retracting front protection guard. This allows operators to load material directly across the saw line from the front of the machine, rather than having to feed the full length of the workpiece along the infeed table. This can be particularly useful in smaller workshops, as it allows the machine to be specified with shorter infeed and outfeed tables without compromising the ability to handle longer material.
The recent redesign introduced several important improvements. Pneumatic regulation for the cutting stroke is now mounted above the working area for easier access, with separate guard pressure regulation. Start, stop and emergency stop controls have been repositioned within easy reach of the operator, and the two-handed saw cycle buttons have been spread further apart to reduce fatigue during repetitive cutting.
The guarding and clamping system has also been improved. The main top pressure saw guard is larger, more robust and better supported, improving both safety and extraction performance. Twin rubber strips on the base of the guard help avoid marking the workpiece while improving grip during cutting. This makes the SuperUp 500 a practical choice for workshops cutting finished timber, prepared components or regular production lengths where safe, repeatable clamping is required.
The machine is built for industrial use. Salvador increased the overall machine weight by around 30% during the redesign, strengthening the chassis to further reduce vibration and improve long-term reliability. Access for maintenance and blade changing has also been improved, with redesigned interlocked access and larger removable panels for the saw motor and pneumatic cylinders.
Accuracy and repeatability are supported by robust infeed and outfeed table options. The SuperUp 500 can be specified with roller tables or flat tables, rear fences, measuring scales and a choice of manual or pneumatic flip-over stops. Heavy-duty stops are available in different widths, allowing the machine to be configured for simple one-off cutting, repeated production lengths or multi-stop cutting setups. The new larger single-piece aluminium fence with machined face improves accuracy and stability, with an integrated measuring scale for easier setup.
Cutting speed can be adjusted to suit the material being processed using an independent pneumatic regulator, with cutting time adjustable from 0.5 to 2 seconds. This gives operators control over the saw stroke for different timber types, sections and cutting requirements. The machine specification includes 400 V three-phase supply, 6–8 bar compressed air, 2800 rpm saw spindle speed, and extraction outlets of 100 mm and 120 mm.
