Wood-Based Panel Processing Machinery
Precision, performance and support for panel manufacturers
Complete panel processing, backed by expertise
Wood-based panels such as MDF, chipboard, plywood, melamine-faced boards and laminated panels require precision, repeatability and efficient material handling at every stage of production. Their consistent thickness and surface finish make them ideal for highly automated manufacturing, but accuracy in cutting, drilling and routing remains essential to achieve quality results. Daltons supports manufacturers working with wood-based panels by supplying reliable workshop machinery and advanced CNC processing solutions, all backed by expert support, training and industry knowledge.
Efficient, accurate panel processing
From single-sheet processing to fully nested production workflows, wood-based panels are central to modern manufacturing. Daltons works with customers to specify solutions that maximise efficiency within available floor space, including vertical panel saws and vertical drilling solutions that reduce material handling requirements and improve safety. These approaches allow accurate panel processing even in compact workshops, without compromising productivity.

Wood-Based Panel Processing FAQs
MDF stands for Medium Density Fibreboard. It is an engineered wood product made from fine wood fibres bonded with resin under heat and pressure, offering a smooth, consistent surface ideal for machining and finishing.
Chipboard is manufactured from wood particles bonded together, making it cost-effective and consistent. Plywood is constructed from multiple layers of veneer bonded at alternating grain directions, providing greater strength and stability.
Solid wood is made from a single piece of timber, while veneer consists of a thin layer of real wood bonded to a core material. Veneered products typically show consistent patterns and edges that reveal the underlying substrate.
Melamine-faced boards are best cut using sharp, correctly specified blades or CNC tooling to minimise chipping. Scoring blades, suitable feed rates and stable machine setups are critical for achieving clean edges.
Wood-based panels are generally best stored flat and stacked on a level surface to prevent warping. Proper support and controlled storage conditions help maintain panel flatness and dimensional stability.
