The role

Daltons is looking for an experienced Field Service Engineer to join our service team, covering customers across the South East of England.

This is a varied, customer-facing role involving the installation, servicing, maintenance and repair of industrial machinery used to process solid wood, wood-based panels, plastics, composites and metals.

Working from home and travelling directly to customer sites, you will provide practical technical support, diagnose faults and help keep customers’ equipment operating safely, efficiently and productively.

You will be supported by our service office and technical support team at our Nottingham headquarters. The role will involve regular travel throughout the South East and occasional travel elsewhere in the UK.

Key responsibilities

  • Install, commission and service industrial machinery

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and pneumatic faults

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance

  • Respond to machinery breakdowns and customer service requests

  • Complete machinery inspections and safety-related work

  • Provide clear technical advice to customers and machine operators

  • Produce accurate service reports and supporting documentation

  • Liaise with Daltons’ service office, technical support team and equipment manufacturers

  • Promote additional service, training, tooling and spare parts support where appropriate

  • Maintain high standards of workmanship, safety and customer service

About you

You will be a practical and self-motivated engineer who is comfortable working independently at customer sites.

Experience with woodworking machinery, CNC equipment or industrial production machinery would be advantageous, although applications are welcomed from engineers with transferable skills from other sectors.

You should have:

  • Strong mechanical engineering skills

  • A working knowledge of electrical fault-finding

  • Experience servicing, maintaining or installing industrial machinery

  • Good diagnostic and problem-solving abilities

  • A professional and customer-focused approach

  • The ability to organise your own workload and travel throughout the region

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills

  • A full UK driving licence

Experience with CNC routers, panel processing machinery, woodworking equipment, automation or industrial control systems would be beneficial.
